MaryLamb is a native of Charleston, West Virginia. As such, she claims to have one short leg from walking around the hills of West Virginia. She was the daughter of Mary Lee Morris Bond and Marshall Bond, Jr.
She graduated from Fernbank Grade School, Sacred Heart middle school, and Charleston Catholic High School.
She matriculated with a BA in history from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia. At the time, it was still the women’s college of the University of Virginia but would later become its own university.
She married Joseph H. Lucas, Jr. and had five children, a son and two sets of twin daughters.
MaryLamb later earned a BA in Christian Education from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, Virginia and an MSW in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.
